| Fernando: Hello, everyone. |
| JP: Hi, Fernando. Today we’re going to hear a conversation between Mario and Luis. |
| Fernando: Mario needs to learn how to say a word in Spanish. |
| JP: Ok, so he’s going to ask Luis how to say it. And we’re going to learn some important questions for anybody that’s learning Spanish. Alright let’s take a listen. |

| MARIO: Oye, ¿cómo se dice "caché" en español? |
| BELÉN: Se dice "caché", igual que en francés. |
| MARIO: ¿Y cómo se escribe? |
| BELÉN: C A CH É. Lleva tilde la E. |

| JP: Let’s hear it again, dramatic speed. |
| MARIO: Oye, ¿cómo se dice "caché" en español? |
| BELÉN: Se dice "caché", igual que en francés. |
| MARIO: ¿Y cómo se escribe? |
| BELÉN: C A CH É. Lleva tilde la E. |
| MARIO: Gracias. |

| MARIO: Hey, how do you say "caché" in Spanish? |
| BELÉN: Se dice "caché", igual que en francés. |
| BELÉN: You say "caché" the same as in French. |
| MARIO: ¿Y cómo se escribe? |
| MARIO: So how do you spell it? |
| BELÉN: C A CH É. Lleva tilde la E. |
| BELÉN: C-A-CH-É. The -E has an accent. |
| MARIO: Gracias. |
| MARIO: Thanks. |

| JP: Ok, we’re back, Fernando, and it looks like he was trying to spell the word caché. |
| Fernando: That’s correct, yes. |
| JP: Ok, what is caché. |
| Fernando: Well, caché is what I have, “coolness”. |
| JP: Oh, the coolness. Ok. So in English we have this word, in French as well, just like in Spanish, right? caché |
| Fernando: That’s right. And they all mean the same. |
| JP: Ok, caché and then the Spanish caché. |
| Fernando: caché or you can say caché. |
| JP: Ok, now I can understand why it’s difficult to spell that in Spanish, right? Because it doesn’t fit into the Spanish spelling system. |
| Fernando: Exactly. And if you properly pronounce it you’ll say caché and it’s going to sound as if it’s spelled with an SH, not a CH. |
| JP: Ok. Alright, so let’s take a look at the vocabulary for this lesson. |

| Fernando: Gracias. |
| JP: “Thanks” or “thank you”. |

| VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE |
| JP: Ok, now let’s look more specifically at this vocabulary. What do you want to start with first, Fernando? |
| Fernando: Let’s start with Gracias. |
| JP: Ok, Gracias means “thank you”. Now you say Gracias. |
| Fernando: Yes, Gracias. |
| JP: Ok, but I have a friend that says Gracias. |
| Fernando: Well, that’s the European way, but me, being from Mexico, I say it Gracias. |
| JP: Gracias. Ok, so remember folks, whether you want to speak Latin American Spanish, Gracias, or you want to speak European Spanish, Gracias, you have to pronounce Gracias in two syllables, right? Gracias. |
| Fernando: Gracias. |
| JP: Now, if you hear yourself saying it in three syllables like Gra-ci-as. |
| Fernando: No, no, no. Please don’t. |
| JP: Ok, it’s too Gringo fabulous, right? |
| Fernando: Yes. |
| JP: Gracias. |
| Fernando: Are you ready? |
| JP: Ok, what’s next? |
| Fernando: Oye. |
| JP: Oye. Ok, this is the attention getting word that tells someone to listen to what you’re going to say. |
| Fernando: Yes, oye. It’s like in English when you say “hey”. So, Oye, ¿me pasas la sal? |
| JP: Ok, it’s like “Hey, can you pass me the salt?” Oye. |
| Fernando: Oye. Next we have some names of languages. |
| JP: Ok, let’s hear them. |
| Fernando: El español. |
| JP: El español. This is the word for the Spanish language. El español. |
| Fernando: That’s right. El español es muy fácil. |
| JP: El español es muy facil. “Spanish is very easy.” Alright, what about French? |
| Fernando: El francés. |
| JP: El francés. |
| Fernando: Sí, el francés. El francés es muy fácil también. |
| JP: Okay, el francés, “French is easy also”. |
| Fernando: No. |
| JP: I think English is the easiest for me. |
| Fernando: Ok, Inglés. |
| JP: Inglés. Ok, so this is the English language. |
| Fernando: El inglés. El inglés es súper fácil. |
| JP: Alright, “English is super easy”. El inglés. |
| Fernando: Ok. Finally, we have two questions that we use all the time in this classroom. The first one is ¿Cómo se dice? |
| JP: ¿Cómo se dice? Alright. This is how you ask how to say something. It’s like “How do you say…?” |
| Fernando: Right. ¿Cómo se dice? |
| JP: Ok, so if I wanted to ask “How to say microphone in Spanish?” |
| Fernando: ¿Cómo se dice "microphone" en español? |
| JP: ¿Cómo se dice microphone? I see what you did there. At the end of it you added en español to clarify. |
| Fernando: Yes, to clarify that you wanted to know how to say it in Spanish, en español. |
| JP: Ok, so now I want to know. Fernando, ¿Cómo se dice "microphone" en español?? |
| Fernando: El micrófono. |
| JP: El micrófono. Ok, that’s the bonus word for the day. Thanks. |
| Fernando: We have one last classroom question in this lesson - ¿Cómo se escribe?. |
| JP: ¿Cómo se escribe? So that’s like “How do you write it” or “How do you spell it?”, right? |
| Fernando: ¿Cómo se escribe? |
| JP: Ok, ¿Cómo se escribe? Now the first word is the question word “how”, right? |
| Fernando: Yes. |
| JP: So that’s Cómo. And the last part is the two words se escribe, right? |
| Fernando: Yes, and when you speak Spanish you run the two words together so se escribe. |
| JP: Se escribe. So I know Americans want to put that little catch in between the two word every time and say se escribe. |
| Fernando: But in Spanish we don’t add that es sound. se escribe. |
| JP: se escribe Ok, ¿Cómo se escribe?. |
| Fernando: ¿Cómo se escribe? |
| JP: ¿Cómo se escribe? Got it. ¿Cómo se escribe? |
| Fernando: JP, let’s do the grammar point. |
| JP: Ok. |

| JP: I want to talk about the question word cómo. Now this is an interrogative pronoun and it’s usually translated as “how”. So we hear cómo in the question “How do you say it?” |
| Fernando: ¿Cómo se dice? |
| JP: Ok. And “How do you write it?” |
| Fernando: ¿Cómo se escribe? |
| JP: Ok, so do you hear cómo in both of those questions? You’re going to hear cómo in a lot of “how” questions, right? But you’ll also hear it when you want someone to repeat something because you didn’t hear it well, you didn’t understand. |
| Fernando: So if someone’s mumbling or if they’re talking too fast, you can ask ¿Cómo? |
| JP: ¿Cómo? |
| Fernando: Exactly. |
| JP: Ok, so let me think of a hard word. The word for “tire”, like the tire on your car, the car tire. Oye, Fernando, ¿Cómo se dice “tire” en español? |
| Fernando: Se dice neumático. |
| JP: ¿Cómo? |
| Fernando: El neumático. |
| JP: ¿Cómo? ¿Cómo? |
| Fernando: El neumático. |
| JP: ¿Cómo? |
| Fernando: Ay, JP, Ay ay ay. |

I took the test many times to get 100%, but still got only 80% because the last question required multiple accent marks. I am sure I got the last question right, but it still shows that my score was 80%.

I noticed a slight error in the meaning of "caché," the French word used in this example. You translate it as "cool", which is not.
"Caché" here means "hidden". "Cool" would be "cachET", but "cool" is not the actual translation of "cachet".
In French, we would say: "cette femme a beaucoup de cachet", which translates into "This lady has a lot of style",
