Jessi: Top 25 Spanish Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 21: Are you hungry? in Spanish (In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Spanish learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.)
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question Are you hungry? In Spanish this is
Javier: ¿Tienes hambre?
The first word in the question is
Javier: tienes
Jessi: meaning have in English.
Javier: (Slow, by syllable) tienes
Jessi: Listen again and repeat.
Javier: tienes

Jessi: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Javier: hambre
Jessi: meaning hunger.
Javier: (Slow, by syllable) hambre
Jessi: Now repeat.

Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Spain and a someone asks you if you're hungry. You want to answer [Yes/No], I'm a little hungry.. Respond to the question.

Jessi: Now you want to say [Yes/No], I'm very hungry. Respond to the question.
Javier: ¿Tienes hambre? (five seconds) Si, tengo mucha de hambre.
Jessi: You want to say [Yes/No], I'm plenty hungry.. . Answer the speaker's question.
Javier: ¿Tienes hambre? (five seconds) Si, tengo bastante de hambre.
Jessi: You want to say [Yes/No], I'm nothing hungry.. Respond to the question.
Javier: ¿Tienes hambre? (five seconds) Si, tengo nada de hambre.
Jessi: You want to ask someone if they are hungry. Ask the question
(5 seconds)
Javier: ¿Tienes hambre?
