Could You Take a Picture? in Mexican Spanish |
In this lesson we will introduce a phrase that will surely come in handy for capturing your memories on camera. Mexico has many beautiful places, so you’ll want to take lots of pictures of landscapes and monuments. And sometimes, you will want to be part of the picture, or include someone else too. For those times, the question “Can you take a picture of me/us?” will be invaluable! |
Let’s imagine first that you want to get a picture with your friends. The question you will definitely need to ask is “Could you take a picture of us, please?” In Spanish that is: |
¿Nos podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
Let’s break it down: |
(slow) ¿Nos po-drí-a to-mar una fo-to, por fa-vor? |
¿Nos podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
The first word, nos, is translated as “to us”. |
(slow) nos. |
nos. |
Then podría is a present form of the verb that means “to be able to”. And in this case is translated as "could you". |
(slow) Po-drí-a. |
Podría. |
The next word tomar, in this sentence means ”to take” as in “to take a picture.” |
(slow) To-mar. |
Tomar. |
Una foto means “a picture”. |
(slow) Una fo-to. |
Una foto. |
And as usual at the end we have por favor. |
Altogether, it is: |
¿Nos podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
If you are on your own and you want to ask someone to take a picture of you, you’ll ask: |
¿Me podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
Let’s break it down: |
(slow) ¿Me po-drí-a to-mar una fo-to, por fa-vor? |
¿Me podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
In this sentence, we only changed nos for me, which means "to me." By using me, you've specified that the picture will be of you. |
(slow) me. |
me. |
¿Me podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
To close out today's lessons, we’d like you to practice what you have just learned. I’ll provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You’ll have a few seconds before I give you the answer, so !buena suerte! which means “Good luck!” in Spanish. |
“Could you take a picture of us, please?” - ¿Nos podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
“Could you take a picture of me, please?” - ¿Me podría tomar una foto, por favor? |
Alright! That's going to do it for this lesson. Hasta luego. |
