| Eric: This is Must-Know Spanish Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 21. In this lesson you'll learn Expressions Used as Verbs. |
| Eric: Keep in mind that just like any other Spanish verb, these expressions follow the same -ar ending verb conjugation rules. |
| SLANG EXPRESSIONS |
| Eric: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are: |
| Anna: chapar |
| Anna: cagarla |
| Anna: molar |
| Anna: palmar |
| Eric: Anna, what's our first expression? |
| Anna: chapar |
| Eric: literally meaning "plate, veneer." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "closed." |
| Anna: [SLOW] chapar [NORMAL] chapar |
| Eric: Listeners, please repeat. |
| Anna: chapar |
| [pause - 5 sec.] |
| Eric: Use this slang expression when you see a closed shop. It's used the same way as you would use the verb |
| Anna: cerrar, |
| Eric: but the situation has to be in a very colloquial context. |
| Eric : Now let's hear an example sentence. |
| Anna: [NORMAL] Cuando llegué al bar era muy tarde y ya estaba chapado. [SLOW] Cuando llegué al bar era muy tarde y ya estaba chapado. |
| Eric: "When I arrived at the bar, it was very late and it was already closed." |
| Anna: [NORMAL] Cuando llegué al bar era muy tarde y ya estaba chapado. |
| Eric: Okay, what's the next expression? |
| Anna: cagarla |
| Eric: literally meaning "to defecate." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "screw up." |
| Anna: [SLOW] cagarla [NORMAL] cagarla |

| Eric: Use this slang expression when things are not going quite well and you or somebody does something that makes things worse. Also, when you make a simple mistake. It's a bit harsh, so be careful not to offend someone when using it. |

| Anna: [NORMAL] La cagué en el examen, dudo que lo apruebe. [SLOW] La cagué en el examen, dudo que lo apruebe. |
| Eric: "I screwed up on the exam, I don't think I'll pass it." |
| Anna: [NORMAL] La cagué en el examen, dudo que lo apruebe. |
| Eric: Okay, what's our next expression? |
| Anna: molar |
| Eric: When it's used as a slang expression it means "to like something." |
| Anna: [SLOW] molar [NORMAL] molar |
| Eric: Listeners, please repeat. |

| Eric: Use this slang expression when you want to express that you have an interest in something or somebody. It's the colloquial way of saying that you like something, but sometimes it has less involvement than liking. |

| Anna: [NORMAL] Me mola la chaqueta que lleva Raquel. [SLOW] Me mola la chaqueta que lleva Raquel. |
| Eric: "I like the jacket that Rachel is wearing." |
| Anna: [NORMAL] Me mola la chaqueta que lleva Raquel. |
| Eric: Okay, what's the last expression? |
| Anna: palmar |
| Eric: literally meaning "palm grove." But when it's used as a slang expression it means "to die." |
| Anna: [SLOW] palmar [NORMAL] palmar |
| Eric: Listeners, please repeat. |

| Eric: Use this slang expression when talking in a vulgar way about somebody that has died. Be careful when using this word, and don't use it to talk about people who were near to you. You can use it when talking about fictional characters, or non-living things, such as machines, cars, or phones to express that they stopped working. |
