INTRODUCTION |
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric. |
Alex: And I'm Alex. |
Eric: And welcome to Must-Know Spanish Sentence Structures, Season 1, Lesson 18. Discussing Experience. |
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for discussing experiences. |
PATTERN |
Eric: For example, "I have traveled to South America." |
Alex: Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. |
Alex: [slow] Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. |
Eric: The pattern for discussing experience has 4 elements. First, the pronoun "I." |
Alex: Yo. |
Eric: Second, the verb "have." |
Alex: he. |
Eric: Third, the verb in participle form "traveled." |
Alex: viajado. |
Eric: And last, the complement "to South America." |
Alex: a Sudamérica. |
Eric: Altogether, we have... "I have traveled to South America." |
Alex: Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. [slow] Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. [normal] Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. |
Eric: Start with the phrase “I have.” In Spanish, this is |
Alex: Yo he |
Eric: This is followed by a participle which is a verb in a form that can be used as an adjective. Add more details in the end that will complement the action, such as a noun or a phrase. |
Alex: Yo he viajado a Sudamérica. |
Eric: So remember: To discuss an experience start with |
Alex: Yo he |
Eric: followed by a participle and end with a complement. |
Eric: Here is another example meaning, "I have eaten exotic food." First, the pronoun "I" |
Alex: Yo. |
Eric: Second, "have." |
Alex: he. |
Eric: Third, verb in participle form "eaten." |
Alex: comido. |
Eric: And last, the complement "exotic food." |
Alex: platillos exóticos. |
Eric: Altogether we have... |
Alex: Yo he comido platillos exóticos. [slow] Yo he comido platillos exóticos. [normal] Yo he comido platillos exóticos. |
Eric: "I have eaten exotic food." |
[pause] |
Alex: Yo he comido platillos exóticos. |
Eric: How do you say - "I have written a book." To give you a hint, "written" is... |
Alex: escrito. [slow] escrito. [normal] escrito. |
Eric: "I have written a book." |
[pause] |
Alex: Yo he escrito un libro. [slow] Yo he escrito un libro. [normal] Yo he escrito un libro. |
[pause] |
Alex: Yo he escrito un libro. |
