Lesson Transcript

Hola a todos! Soy Lucia. Hi everybody! I’m Lucia. Welcome to SpanishPod101.com’s Español en tres minutos. The fastest, easiest, and most fun way to learn Spanish.
In the last lesson, we learned the phrase ¿Habla ingles?; "Do you speak English?"
In this lesson we’re going to learn how to apologize or say “excuse me” in Spanish.
The basic phrase for “excuse me” is Disculpe.
[slowly] Disculpe.
We should use Disculpe in formal situations, like when we are ordering something at a restaurant. For example:
Disculpe, un cafe, por favor. "Excuse me, a coffee please."
[slowly] Disculpe, un cafe, por favor.
We can also use it when asking a question:
Disculpe, donde esta el bano? "Excuse me, where is the restroom?"
[slowly] Disculpe, donde esta el bano?
Another way to say "excuse me" is Perdón.
[slowly] Perdón.
Just like disculpe, we can use perdón when asking a question, or when apologizing.
Both of these phrases can be used for either “excuse me” or “I’m sorry.” But if you really want to apologize for something, it might be better to use a different phrase.
That phrase is Lo siento. It means “I’m sorry” and can be used in both formal and informal situations.
[slowly] Lo siento
Unlike the others, Lo siento only has the meaning of “I’m sorry”, and not “excuse me”.
Now it’s time for Lucia’s Insights.
Please remember that if we accidentally bump into someone on the street, we don’t usually say “I am sorry,” Lo siento; instead we say disculpe, or perdón, "excuse me".
Are you are able to count in Spanish? In the next lesson we will learn the numbers in Spanish from one to ten!
Hasta la próxima! See you soon!

Hola Faéz,

Thank you for your question.

Perdone: it's used in a formal way for people you don't know or seniors.

Perdona: this is for informal situations usually when you know the person you're talking to or for young/middle-aged people.

Perdón: you can say it in both cases.

Sigamos practicando!

Saludos,

Carla

¡Hola!

I have seen several forms of "Perdón", including "Perdone" and "Perdona".

Could you please explain the difference between these three and when would be the best to use each of them?

¡Gracias!

Hola,

I think I've found a spelling mistake, located inside the "Lesson Notes"

"Excuse me, could you help me?" this one is correct, but the Spanish translation is wrong,

Perdón, ¿me pordrías ayudar?

it should be "podrías"

Just pointing that out.

Hola Yen,

Mucho gusto.

It's better to say "soy vietnamita".

Thank you for your feedbacks!

"de nada" its only use for "gracias".

Though you can answer

"SI?" if they are interrupting you.

If its in the street walking you don't need to say anything.

Most of the times is use in a context where you would answer with si/que/nothing

Saludos,

Carla

If someone bumped into me and said "Disculpe" or "Perdon", can I respond with "De nada" too or is it only used to reply to "Gracias"?

Halo. Soy Yen, de los Vietnamien (?)

It would be good if you can:

1. Include in the vocabulary some information to tell the learner whether a word is female/male etc so we know how to use the correct form of verb

2. The extension is useful but it can even be more helpful if extra vocabulary can be added for us to understand each part of the sentence.

Gracias

Disculpe!

Can you please tell me the meaning of baño is "bathroom" or "restroom"? Why in Vocabulary the translation is "bathroom" but in Lesson note is "restroom"?

Gracias!
