Hi, everyone! This is Rosa and today, we’ll be doing the 5 biggest festivals in Spain. Let’s begin!
1. Feria de Abril “Seville April Fair”
Cuando voy a la Feria de Abril me pongo un vestido de flamenca. “When I go to Seville April Fair, I wear a flamenco dress.”
Is it the pink one?
It doesn’t have to be pink.
What’s a flamenco? What’s a flamenco?
With a lot of ruffles…
Okay, then I’m thinking of the wrong one. I was thinking flamingo.
We don’t slaughter flamingos.
Oops!
And we’ll walk with our… It depends on the year when you will dress up as flamingos so the rest, I don’t know, like turtles.
I just really think like I was just like, oh, flamingo dress, okay.
No, we’re not. These people are weird. Why not?
Like, don’t judge.
No.
So flamenco means dress like ruffles?
Yeah with the, you know, the woman that dances like tit-tirit-tit, tit-tirit-tit so chi-chi-chi-chi with a lot of ruffles and…
Flamenco.
That’s funny.
Not flamingo, flamenco.
2. Fallas de Valencia “Valencia's Fallas”
Si te gusta ver fuego tienes que ir a ver las Fallas de Valencia. “If you like watching fires, you have to go to Valencia's Fallas.”
What is it?
The one they build like super huge sculptures, but they are made of burnable materials and they are, like, huge. Normally, they are... well, some of them are like satirical so they like…
They put them on fire.
Yeah so all of them are burned except for one that is saved. People have to vote and the one with the most votes get saved from the fire and goes into a museum, but all the others are burned.
Hmm, but it’s like that.
But I guess it’s part of the festival.
Yeah, yeah.
But I guess it looks cool burning right?
Yeah, that’s the thing and they are spread throughout all the city like they are burning and it’s like spread all over.
Are they big?
Yeah, they are big, they are big.
Oh! Interesting.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
3. San Fermín “San Fermin”
No soy muy partidaria de los sanfermines. “I'm not really a supporter of the San Fermin Festival.”
What is this one?
The one with the…
Devil horns?
The bull?
The bulls, the bulls…
Devil horns.
They have two horns, yeah.
Flamingos and the bulls. But you’re saying, like, I’m not really supportive, oh, but is it like…
Hmm, so I mean they go…
They make them angrier.
Like in the street, yeah. Like before they, yeah, they go on a street and there are people running in front of them and trying to escape them.
Is it this one?
Yeah. So normally it’s that in a closed space and with professional bullfighters, but in this festival, it’s normal people running in front of them on a street.
Isn’t that dangerous?
Yeah, I mean, yeah. Almost always, there are some accidents.
4. Carnaval “Carnival”
El carnaval de Tenerife es impresionante. “Tenerife Carnival is amazing.”
I mean I’ve never been to the Tenerife Carnival, but I guess it must be very fun because everyone is dressing up and it’s very colorful and everyone is dancing on the streets and there are these big parades. Yeah, it has to be very fun.
5. Festival de Cine de Sitges “Sitges Film Festival”
Si te gustan las películas no puedes perderte el Festival de Cine de Sitges. “If you like movies, you cannot miss the Sitges Film Festival.”
I mean since I love music, I haven’t been to it, but I really want to go to Sónar. It’s an electronic techno-music festival in Barcelona. Yeah, I hope to go soon.
This is the end of today’s 5 biggest festivals in Spain. Have you been to any of those? Hasta luego.
