How Do I Type Spanish If I Have A English Keyboard?

Hola a todos!

I can type certain words in Spanish with a English keyboard because the alphabet it's similar to the Spanish alphabet but there are still certain letters and grammar icons missing so I ask this same question on the JP101 forums and a kind listener answer it for me so this is for everybody who is interest in typing Spanish with a english keybooard, here:

Using the U.S. International Keyboard, Spanish language characters can be created using the following functions:

Spanish Characters for Windows

Áá = ' + a
Éé = ' + e
Íí = ' + i
Óó = ' + o
Úú = ' + u
Ññ = ~ + n
Üü = " + u
¡ = Alt (hold down) + !
¿ = Alt (hold down) + ?

Spanish Characters for Mac OS

Áá = Option + e then a
Éé = Option + e then e
Íí = Option + e then i
Óó = Option + e then o
Úú = Option + e then u
Üü = Option + u then u
Ññ = Option + n then n
¡ = Option + 1
¿ = Option + ?

Hope this helps. There are other ways to create these characters as well. And if you're not using the U.s. International Keyboard, then this won't help you very much. So, let me put this out there as a start, and if/when this doesn't work for everyone, we'll find a solution. If/when this doesn't work for you, be sure to include in your post your keyboard settings.

I'm currently using a japanese keyboard and an english version of Windows but the keyboard is configured as "Standard 101/102-Key". Back in home I also used an english keyboard configured the same way.

Through repeated use I memorized the key combinations for those spanish language characters:

Keep pressed LEFT-ALT key + (Keypad combination)

á : LEFT-ALT key + 160
é : LEFT-ALT key + 130
í : LEFT-ALT key + 161
ó : LEFT-ALT key + 162
ú : LEFT-ALT key + 163
ñ : LEFT-ALT key + 164
Ñ : LEFT-ALT key + 165
¿ : LEFT-ALT key + 168
¡ : LEFT-ALT key + 173

You just have to press Alt and while keeping it pressed type 173 and you'll get "¡"

You should need to download Spanish fonts in your computer then you easily write in Spanish. My brother also practice to write Spanish with English keyboard.

I use All Chars. It's soooo much easier. You just run it and type some simple key combinations to get the accented characters.

I do it the way most people in the Spanish speaking world do it... I set Spanish as one of the languages I use in Regional Settings (control panel). Then I just use my regular keyboard as if it's a Spanish keyboard. I have a hotkey setup so I can switch between American English and Spanish keyboards easily.

I do the same as JP. It's so easy to press Alt+Shift, and then you've switched language.
